For the better part of two decades, the guitar chair in John Lee Hooker Jr.'s band belonged to Jeffrey James Horan. He played rhythm on Hooker Jr.'s Grammy nominated 2004 debut, Blues With a Vengeance, came back as a guitarist for Cold as Ice on Telarc in 2006, and was still holding that chair in 2008 when All Odds Against Me drew a second Grammy nomination. In 2020 Hooker handed him a featured credit of his own on "Let That Devil Go." The Golden Gate Blues Society then voted him its solo winner and sent him to Memphis to represent San Francisco at the International Blues Challenge. Horan's credits run wider than the blues clubs suggest. He turned up on pedal steel on Indiana pianist Slats Klug's 2007 roots record, sharing a credit list with Carrie Newcomer and Tad Robinson.
