Joe Bonamassa calls Chris Cain his favorite blues player on the scene today, a guitarist with the voice of B.B. King and the chops of Albert King. Cain's father took him to see B.B. King when he was three years old and handed him his first guitar at eight. He studied jazz at San Jose City College, picked up keyboards and saxophone while he was there, and later taught improvisation in the same building. His 1987 debut, Late Night City Blues, drew four Blues Music Award nominations including Guitarist of the Year. Raisin' Cain brought four more in 2022. Two shows, one room, and the best tone in Northern California.

His father was African American and his mother Greek, and both were music fans who brought blues, jazz and popular music into the house early. Alligator Records put out Raisin' Cain in 2021 and Good Intentions Gone Bad in 2024, the second one cut with Kid Andersen producing at Greaseland in San Jose. Robben Ford says Cain has the intensity that keeps you on the edge of your seat.
