Carlos Santana kept Tony Lindsay out front as lead vocalist for roughly 25 years, a run that brought Lindsay 11 Grammy Awards. He sang on Supernatural, the 1999 blockbuster that took nine Grammys at the 2000 ceremony, including Album of the Year, and entered the Grammy Hall of Fame in 2025. His voice carries five of its tracks, among them Da Le Yaleo, Africa Bamba and The Calling. He stayed through Shaman, Ceremony, Shape Shifter and Corazon before his Santana run ended in 2015. Away from that band he has sung behind Aretha Franklin, Al Jarreau, Teddy Pendergrass, Lou Rawls and the O'Jays. Two sets on Mason Street, and seats go fast.

Aretha Franklin, Steve Winwood and Angela Bofill have all had Tony Lindsay's voice on their records. Born in Kingston, New York in 1954, he headed west in 1980 and has anchored Bay Area stages ever since, most often fronting his own Soul Soldiers. He writes as well as sings: The Whispers, Johnny Gill and Tevin Campbell have all cut his songs. Two sets in one small Union Square room. Book early.
